Around sailing, a merce cunningham or even '''merce cunningham's eye''' occurs as nature and severity of downhaul used on the Bermuda rigged sailboat to change the shape of a sail. It differs from either the average downhaul in the way that it attaches to the sail. the body ordinarily consists of a line which is secured at one prevent to the mast or boom below the foot of the mainsail. These are so passed across the cringle in a luff of a sail near the foot, however above the tack, and then led down in the other side to the fitting on the mast or even even boom or on deck.
